1. Who we are
Say Word is a biblical research and study service available at saywordapp.org. In this policy, “Say Word,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the Say Word service. Questions about this policy may be sent to info@saywordapp.org.
2. Information we collect
Account information. We collect your email address and account status so you can sign in and receive subscription access. Authentication is provided through Netlify Identity. Your password is handled by the authentication service and is not visible to Say Word administrators.
Subscription information. Purchases use Stripe Managed Payments and are sold through Link, which handles transaction support and related communications. Stripe collects and processes your payment method, billing details, transaction information, and information used for fraud prevention. Say Word may receive your email address, Stripe customer identifier, subscription plan, subscription status, trial dates, renewal dates, cancellation status, and payment-failure notices. Say Word does not receive or store your complete payment card number.
Questions and conversation context. When you submit a question, Say Word sends the question, the selected answer mode, and relevant recent conversation context to Anthropic’s API so an answer can be generated. Do not include confidential, financial, medical, or other sensitive personal information in your questions.
Religious beliefs. Questions you ask may reveal your religious or spiritual beliefs. Some privacy laws treat this as sensitive information. Say Word uses your questions only to generate your answers and study guides. We don't sell them, use them for advertising, or build profiles from them, and we don't store them in our subscriber database.
Saved research. When you select Save, your saved questions and answers are stored locally in your browser on that device. They are not synchronized to a Say Word account or stored in Say Word’s subscriber database. Clearing browser data or removing the app may delete that saved research.
Voice input. If you use voice input, your browser or device converts speech to text. You can review the text before submitting it. The resulting text is handled like any other question.
Technical and security information. Our hosting and service providers may process information such as IP address, browser type, device type, request time, authentication cookie, and security or error information needed to deliver, protect, and troubleshoot the service.
Communications. If you contact support, we receive the information you include in your message and use it to respond.
3. How we use information
- Provide and secure subscriber access.
- Process trials, payments, renewals, and cancellations.
- Generate answers and maintain the context of the current conversation.
- Deliver verified Scripture text and requested app features.
- Send account, password, billing, and service communications.
- Prevent abuse, investigate errors, and improve reliability.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect users, Say Word, and service providers.
4. Answer processing
Say Word uses Anthropic’s commercial API to generate explanations and follow-up questions. Anthropic states that commercial API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models unless the customer affirmatively opts in. Say Word does not intentionally opt subscriber questions or answers into model training.
Anthropic states that its standard API retention period is up to 30 days, with possible longer retention when required for law, safety, or enforcement of its usage policies. Anthropic’s current practices are described in its commercial data retention information and model training information.
5. Service providers
We share information only as needed to operate Say Word, including with:
- Netlify for hosting, server functions, security, and user authentication. See Netlify’s Privacy Statement.
- Stripe for checkout, subscription billing, fraud prevention, and the customer billing portal. See the Stripe Privacy Center.
- Anthropic for AI answer generation.
- Professional advisers, authorities, or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce agreements, or protect rights and safety.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use subscriber information for third-party targeted advertising.
6. Cookies and local storage
Say Word uses essential authentication technology, including a secure session cookie, to keep subscribers signed in and protect restricted pages. The Research Library uses browser local storage to keep saved research on your device. Authentication may also use browser local storage to maintain sign-in state. Stripe and Netlify may use cookies or similar technology when providing their services.
Say Word does not use analytics, advertising cookies, or tracking pixels, and no third-party scripts, fonts, or images load on its pages. Because Say Word sets only cookies that are essential for signing in, it does not show a cookie consent banner. Stripe's own cookie practices apply on Stripe's checkout and billing pages.
7. How long information is kept
Say Word does not log or store question or answer text on its servers. Answer diagnostics contain timing, status codes, usage totals, and rule identifiers. Rate limit records contain a hashed user identifier, request count, and reset time. Operational incident records contain a short fixed summary and status, without question or answer content.
Account and subscription records are kept while your account or subscription is active and afterward as reasonably needed for billing, security, legal, and recordkeeping purposes. Support messages and limited operational incident records are kept as reasonably necessary to resolve issues and maintain the service. Saved research remains in your browser until you remove it or clear browser data. Third-party providers retain information according to their own policies and legal obligations.
8. Your choices and rights
You may update your password, cancel a subscription through the Stripe billing portal, remove locally saved research, or contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information controlled by Say Word. Some information may be retained when required for payment records, security, fraud prevention, or law.
Privacy rights vary by location. To make a request, email info@saywordapp.org from the email connected to your account. We may need to verify your identity before completing the request.
Account deletion. Sign in at Delete my account and type DELETE to cancel your subscription immediately and delete your login and subscriber records. You can also clear saved research in the current browser. Remove research separately on other devices. If a provider is unavailable, your deletion request is saved for automatic retry and the page reports that deletion is pending. A limited deletion status record prevents old sessions and delayed billing events from restoring access. Stripe may retain payment records as required by law. You can still email info@saywordapp.org for help. We aim to respond within 30 calendar days and follow any shorter legal deadline.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including HTTPS, authenticated access, restricted server functions, and third-party payment processing. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
Say Word is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and remove it when appropriate.
11. International processing
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have privacy laws that differ from the laws where you live.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Say Word, our providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be updated when changes are published. Material changes may also be communicated through the service or by email when appropriate.
