Using the service

Terms of Use

Effective October 24, 2026

These Terms explain the rules for using Say Word, including subscriptions, account responsibilities, AI limitations, and acceptable use.

Please read these Terms. By creating an account, starting a trial, purchasing a subscription, or using Say Word, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. The service

Say Word is a biblical research and study service. It provides explanations, source information, verified Scripture text from identified local datasets, canon information, follow-up questions, and research tools. Features may change as the service is improved.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Say Word. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must approve your use and any subscription purchase. You must be legally able to enter into these Terms.

3. Accounts and security

You agree to provide an accurate email address, keep your password confidential, and promptly notify us if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity performed through your account. An account and subscription are intended for the individual subscriber and may not be sold, transferred, or shared to avoid purchasing required access.

4. Trials, subscriptions, and billing

Say Word may offer a seven-day free trial with a valid payment method. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the subscription automatically converts to the paid plan selected at checkout. Current options may include monthly or annual billing. The price, billing interval, taxes, trial terms, and next charge date displayed by Stripe at checkout control your purchase.

Paid subscriptions automatically renew until canceled. You authorize Stripe to charge the payment method connected to your subscription for recurring fees and applicable taxes. You can stop future renewals through the Cancel renewal page, including when a price change is pending. You can also manage billing through the linked Stripe customer portal or Link where available. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period unless the checkout or billing portal states otherwise.

For a change to an existing subscriber’s recurring price, we will send an email stating the current and new recurring prices, billing interval, first affected charge date, and how to cancel, between 7 and 30 days before that charge. We will obtain any additional consent required by applicable law. If the notice window is missed, the current price remains in place until a properly noticed future renewal. New signup prices may differ from an existing subscriber’s price. We may change features with reasonable advance notice when required. Refunds are described below. Nothing in these Terms limits non-waivable consumer rights.

Refund policy

Monthly plans: you can cancel any time and you keep access until the end of the paid month. We don't refund partial months. Annual plans: request a full refund within 14 days of your first annual charge by emailing info@saywordapp.org. After 14 days, annual plans are not refundable, but you can cancel renewal at any time. This doesn't limit any refund rights you have under law.

Payments sold through Link use Stripe Managed Payments. Customers may also request transaction support or a refund through Link support. Stripe may issue refunds under its own applicable policies, including in certain cases within 60 days of the transaction. This policy does not restrict those provider remedies or refunds or other remedies required by applicable law, including for unauthorized charges or failure to supply the purchased service. A refund request is separate from a request to delete your account.

5. Answers and verified text

Always check the cited text before relying on an answer.

A “Verified Scripture” label means the displayed quotation was retrieved from the local translation dataset identified in the answer. This label verifies the quotation’s wording. Interpretations, historical claims, and source descriptions are separate commentary.

Say Word is an educational and research companion. It is not a substitute for professional pastoral, legal, medical, mental-health, financial, or other professional advice. In an emergency, contact an appropriate professional or emergency service.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Say Word for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, threatening, or harmful activity.
  • Attempt to bypass authentication, subscription requirements, rate limits, or security controls.
  • Probe, disrupt, overload, scrape, reverse engineer, or automatically extract substantial portions of the service except where law expressly permits it.
  • Upload malicious code or interfere with another person’s use of the service.
  • Misrepresent an answer as independently verified scholarship or professional advice.
  • Use the service in a way that violates the rights of another person or the policies of our service providers.

7. Your content and saved research

You retain any rights you have in the questions you submit. You give Say Word and its service providers permission to process those questions and relevant conversation context only as needed to operate, secure, and improve the service, subject to the Privacy Policy.

Saved research is stored in the browser on your device. You are responsible for keeping copies of material you need. Say Word is not responsible for saved research lost because browser data was cleared, a device was lost, or the app was removed.

8. Say Word content and intellectual property

The Say Word name, branding, interface, software, design, canon organization, and original service content are owned by or licensed to Say Word and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Subject to these Terms, you receive a limited, personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable right to use the service while your access remains active.

You may copy and share reasonable portions of answers for personal study, discussion, teaching, or commentary. You may not reproduce or resell the service, build a competing dataset from its output, remove source labels, or imply that Say Word endorses you or your organization without written permission. Scripture translations and third-party materials remain subject to their respective rights and licenses.

9. Third-party services and links

Say Word relies on third-party services, including Netlify, Stripe, and Anthropic, and may link to other websites. Their services and policies are controlled by those providers. We are not responsible for third-party websites, outages, policy changes, or content.

10. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Say Word available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Access may be limited for maintenance, security, provider outages, legal requirements, or circumstances beyond our control. We may add, change, or remove features while preserving the core value of an active subscription when reasonably possible.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access when an account violates these Terms, threatens the service or other users, creates legal or security risk, or fails to maintain an active subscription. You may stop using Say Word at any time and may cancel recurring billing through the Cancel renewal page.

12. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Say Word is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not make warranties that every answer, citation, interpretation, translation, historical statement, or feature will be complete, accurate, suitable for a particular purpose, or continuously available.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Say Word and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or opportunities arising from use of or inability to use the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, total liability will not exceed the amount you paid to Say Word during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

14. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, processed, and retained and is incorporated into these Terms.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the service, providers, or law changes. The effective date will be updated when revised Terms are published. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice when appropriate. Continuing to use Say Word after updated Terms take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

16. Contact and questions

Contact info@saywordapp.org with questions about these Terms, billing, or the service. Before beginning a formal dispute, please contact us and allow a reasonable opportunity to address the concern. These Terms do not waive rights that cannot legally be waived.
